Fighting Poverty One Child at a Time

It’s a trendy word, one that typically brings thoughts of lack of food, or affordable housing, or stability. At Boys & Girls Club, we think more broadly – poverty of academic success, of leadership & character development, and of the knowledge to make healthy life choices. But we are Fighting Poverty, One Child At a Time – and we need you to join us.

Education is the primary indicator as to whether a child in poverty will grow up to become an adult in poverty. Education, being a part of a Community, and maintaining proper Health are the three leading factors that enable impoverished children to exit poverty as an adult.1 The Club pairs Academic Mentors with members to help them realize their potential and the value of staying in school. Through Keystone Club and Torch Club, members gain an understanding of what it means to be a leader and a member of the community. Through Triple Play, members develop a mindfulness to live a healthy life – physically and emotionally.

Boys & Girls Club of Greater Lynchburg serves local youth ages 6-18. Members have a safe place where they can spend time after school, on school holidays, and all summer long. While at the Club, members have the opportunity to explore and discover who they’ll become and are given the tools necessary to help them along the way. Whether it’s through participating in educational enrichment programs, STEM programs, sports leagues, or various art programs, members have a new world of opportunity in front of them.

The Club offers young people what they need and want most: adults who respect and listen to them, a safe environment where they can have fun and be themselves, and constructive, high quality programs and activities. Our goal for 2017-2018 is to raise $850,000 so that we can continue our programs – and we need your support!
  • Annual Membership fee - $10.00 per child, $20 per family maximum

Life changing experiences are happening every day at Boys & Girls Club of Greater Lynchburg. For 12 years, we’ve been Fighting Poverty One Child At a Time ~ together. We hope you’ll join us once again.
